What You Should Do Before And After LASIK Surgery

Posted on

If you're about to have LASIK eye surgery then you need to prepare as much as possible. This will ensure that the surgery goes well for you and that you are comfortable before and after the procedure. It's not hard to prepare for a LASIK eye surgery, take a look at these tips so you can be as prepared as possible for the procedure.

Contact Lenses

Once your LASIK surgery has been scheduled you need to stop wearing contact lenses. Contact lenses have been known to change the shape of your cornea. When the shape of your cornea is changed in any way, it can make it more difficult for your eye doctor to properly assess what needs to be done. Ask your doctor exactly how long you should go without contact lenses before your surgery.

Avoid Makeup

Once you're about to have LASIK eye surgery it's always a good idea to stop wearing makeup. Your face needs to be as clean as possible before the procedure. This is the best way to avoid eye infections.

Schedule Rest

It's a good idea to also schedule rest into your schedule for at least a day. Right after the surgery, it is best not to go back to work. This is especially important if you have to use a computer at work. Your eyes will need to rest and heal. Stay off screens such as your phone and your computer for a short while.

Get Help

Get someone to drive you home after the surgery is completed. Driving requires a lot of eye movements and your eyes need to rest and heal as mentioned earlier. If you can, avoid chores that require you to use your eyes for long periods. For example, you may want to prepare meals for that day ahead of time and freeze them, so you will only have to warm them up on the day of your surgery.

Cooking requires a lot of eye movement and this can delay healing.  Additionally, if you have small children, get help to look after them, so you can rest your eyes.

Preparing for your LASIK surgery is not difficult but you need to take the time to pay attention to the small details that will make the surgery go smoothly. By following these tips you will ensure that the surgery is as successful as possible so that you are happy with the results.
